All four tutors are working through process-driven approaches to design. This method involves evaluating how the process of material transformation itself influences different design decisions. It highlights the relationship between how things are made and the tangible references of what is made.
Each of the four designers is approaching this theme in their own design language and through their personal research. Attua Aparicio is exploring different ways of working as a collective to make planters that combine different colours of clay, through a principle of minimal intervention. Marco Campardo is investigating unorthodox ways to use wax to obtain vases in cast glass. Glithero is conducting research into material spilling using plaster. Guan Lee is exploring how a material with a language of its own can be translated onto another material through casting; for instance, how wax could become cast metal. The final result will be a series of objects co-created by designers-tutors and the students.
