Reading Design Exhibition
From 14 September 2024 to 22 September 2024

The Reading Design workshop focused on creating products where the design process took center stage. Whether shaped by or defying specific methods, the process was always evident in the final outcome. To celebrate the Tutors and the students’ work, an exhibition was conceived as a platform to present these creations beyond the workshop environment. Here, the objects stood as functional yet evocative pieces, allowing their stories to be understood without the need for words.

To mark the opening of the exhibition, Grymsdyke Farm curated an opening event at Cromwell Place and a special After Party, inviting the London design community to experience their London House for the first time. As part of the event, RASA Dining orchestrated a one-of-a-kind culinary experience, blending food and design. Classic Indian dishes were reimagined into bite-sized, flavorful moments, heightened by the intimacy and theatricality of being hand-fed—a multisensory evening that bridged gastronomy and creativity.
The BROMPTON DESIGN DISTRICT is a partnership between leading international brands, independent retailers, local restaurants and cultural institutions.

Initiated by South Kensington Estates, a company with a history woven into the fabric of the district for over 200 years, the Brompton Design District was established in 2006 becoming London’s first Design District. Stretching from the V&A to Brompton Road, Brompton is a destination for design; global design brands sit within an ecosystem of fashion shops, local cafes, established restaurants and the world’s first cultural quarter. Brompton Design District has revitalised the area as a place where people come together to share, enjoy and learn about design in its broadest sense; including through culture, fashion and food.

It is the leading District during the annual London Design Festival with a dedicated programme of temporary exhibitions. In 2024, these will showcase new design under the theme The Practice of Learning. Brompton’s programme, curated by Jane Withers Studio, has played host to pioneering and innovative contemporary exhibitions including Martino Gamper’s 100 chairs in 100 days, Peter Pilotto’s Townhouse Takeover and James Shaw and Lou Stoppard’s Too Kettles, No Sofa. The combination of temporary exhibitions, set in an area of London known for its iconic, international design brands, adds energy and dynamism and has earned Brompton the reputation as a leading international design destination.
