The Farm Shop – A collective experience at Theatro
From 12 April 2024 to 19 April 2024
Residing at the intersection of art and design, interiors and architecture, The Farm Shop is a collaborative project presented by Grymsdyke Farm and Fels. Making its debut in Italy for the first time at the Fuorisalone in Milan – thanks to a collaboration between Theatro and Simple Flair, creative consultants – the exhibition presents itself as a shared exploration celebrating the conviviality of everyday objects.
Theatro Milano, located at Via Vigevano 8, is a hub for exchanging ideas, expertise, and methods. The Farm Shop will be celebrated during Fuorisalone in Milan from 12th-19th April 2024 at Theatro Milano. Following its success at the London Design Festival 2023, the collaborative project which brings together international designers, architects, and studios presents for the first time in Italy a collection of items for the dining table. The objects on display were designed and produced at Grymsdyke Farm in Buckinghamshire – a living and working space with a strong sense of community and collaboration with a focus on manufacturing and material research. Each designer has utilised the facilities, tools and expertise on site to create objects that blur the boundaries between art, design and function, exploring what we consume and how we consume it.
The project for Theatro serves as a tool for connecting people and places. This is precisely why it was chosen to host the first Italian edition of The Farm Shop. The objects for home and table, born during the residency, are highly evocative of the place where they were conceived and made. For example, the Walnut bench made by Marco Campardo from a tree felled on the farm’s grounds, the floor lamps created by Andu Masebo, or the linen and beeswax aprons by Nathalie Bagnoud. Also added for the occasion is the installation Pizza Parlour by Arabeschi di Latte.
The Farm Shop follows the path laid out last year by Theatro and Simple Flair with Psyche Organic, the organic oil company created in Copenhagen by Theophilos Constantinou, which made its debut in Italy during Fuorisalone 2023. The theme of conviviality, of being well together, is central to Theatro’s approach. Architectural consulting and cultural insight are always accompanied by pleasure, taste, and the attitude of sharing experiences, skills and thoughts.
The creative impulse at Theatro dissolves the boundaries between design, interiors and architecture, merging them into an experimental and unconventional proposal in close connection between process, production, design and innovation. Each invited artist and designer was asked to create new artwork and tableware specifically designed for display in Theatro’s spaces. In Milan, the dining setting is at the heart of The Farm Shop experience, a collaborative project that continues to prompt reflection on the origin of the everyday items that surround us and how we can take care of them.
